The garden at Bide-A-While is "located on 4.96 acres with a historic cottage situated on the shore of Frenchman's Bay. This shingle style 'cottage,' designed by Frank Miles Day of Philadelphia, with Frederick L. Savage, supervising architect, was built of cedar shingles and Mount Desert granite in 1896 for Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Ketterlinus of Philadelphia. Mr. Ketterlinus owned a family lithography firm and Mrs. Ketterlinus was the daughter of one of John D. Rockefeller's original partners. The second owner was Theodore Marburg, Ambassador to Belgium" (citation below).
