Dear Sir:-
On behalf of the Ber Harbor Board of Trade I have been cor-
responding with Col. Boothby of the Maine Central on the subject of a
series of excursions to Bar Harbor during the months of June and July
from points on the route to Boston.
The last letter I had from Col.
Boothby on the subject, informed me that he had been to Boston and con-
sulted with you in regard to the matter, and he gave ne to understand
that your roads did not care to give reduced rates after July first, and
that, judging from past experience, you thought the cost of advertising an
excursion for June would be about $400 of which naturally you would expect
us to pay about three-fourths.
As Col. Boothby thought it might save confusion if I corres-
ponded directly with you, I wish to inform you that after giving the matter
careful consideration the Directors of the Board of Trade have come to the
conclusion that it would be unwise to try to hendle any kind of excursion
this year as the funds for advertising purposes are already pretty well
used up in the printing and distribution of a large edition of booklets ad-
vertising Bar Harbor, and also because our hotel men do not feel like gaking
any reduction after the first of July, and the hotels that open previous to
that date are very few and are not prepared to handle anything of a crowd,
unless previously assured of it.
