Spurling, Boothbay Harbor, Maine, Dear Sir: I have your favor of the 19th, and was glad to hear from you. I am not sure whether you know about it, but there are two suits now pending by Sanford against Mr. Preble, and the bringing of the se- -- cond suit has enabled us to secure more delay than otherwise would have been the case. I had the same auditor appointed in both suits, and we went down session to Cranberry Isles as you may know , and had another season last fall or early winter. I took testimony 64 both Cranberry Isles and South West Harbor. There is still some more testimony to take, and the auditor cannot make any report, until after testimony is taken, so I almost doubt if there will be any trial in April. The auditor will have to hear the rest of the testimony and make his report before there could be any trial. Mr. W. H. Preble's death is, of course, very unfortunate for our case, as he knew more about the details of the possible evidence than
