The 1893 BHVIA 4th An. Rpt of the Path Committee states, "A path up Great Pond Hill is being considered."Shown on the 1896 path map.Described in the 1901 BHVIA 12th An Rpt. but not shown in diagram.Described in the 1902 BHVIA 13th An. Rpt. as the "Great Hill Path."The 1917 BHVIA 28th An. Rpt., Report of the Roads and Paths Committee by Leonard Opdycke, Chairman notes a "Shift in of the entrance to the path up Great Hill a short distance to the east along Cleftstone Road. So as to prevent its interfering with the site of Mrs. Rowell's new house..."The path is shown on the 1942 "NPS Master Plan of the Bar Harbor Area." The path is no longer marked on the 1951 NPS Road and Trail System Plan (part of a master plan).
