Significance

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a Ramsar Convention’s Wetland of International Importance. It is one of 41 sites designated in the U.S. and one of 2,400 sites worldwide. The sanctuary protects the largest remaining old-growth bald cypress forest in the world.
