BAR HARBOR - Mrs.
Verner A Gilley of
Islesford has received the
Mary Tracy Ambrose Cane
for being the oldest
resident at the Harbor Rest
Nursing Home here. Mrs.
Gilley is 94.
The presentation was
made as part of the
Bicentennial festivities by
Edward E. Ainsworth, Bar
Harbor town manager, and
Mrs Jere W. Jellison of
Salisbury Cove CO
chairman of the town's
Bicentennial committee.
Mrs. Gilley was born at
Machiasport, March 10,
1882 She graduated from
Washington Academy and
taught in the elementary
grades at Machiasport,
Whiting and Charlotte from
1900 to 1903. After 1907, she
started teaching at
Isleford
Mrs: Gilley has three
daughters, Miss Sylvia F.
Gilley at the Maplecrest
Nursing Home, East
Sullivan; Mrs. Louise
Spurling of Northeast
Harbor and Mrs. Marcia
Manring of Northeast
Harbor She has four
grandchildren and two
great granddaughters.
