Triad Pass Trail Acadia National Park, Hancock County, ME

A lightly used woodland path, occassionally steep, that originally led from Seal Harbor and Wildwood Stables, to connect with the Pond Trail (#20) and Pemetic West Cliff Trail (#30). The route's south end now starts at the Triad-Hunters Brook Trail (#35) and goes only a short distance to the Pond Trail (#20). Crosses corduroy cedar bridge, mid 1990s origin. Portions may have been part of c.1893 logging road. The route has three possible SHVIS steps. The trail is a 3-5'-wide eroded woodland path. KJ, MB, GJS

Significance

The historic trail system of Acadia National Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognized for its national significance and ties to the history of Mount Desert Island and establishment of the park. The system's period of significance starts in 1844 and ends in 1942. The listing encompasses 109 trails traversing 117 miles on Mount Desert Island (some extending outside the park) and includes 18 memorial plaques, 12 viewpoints, and unique engineering features.
